Film Screening Questions No. 3: Fire

Please see your questions below:

1. In what way can we possibly connect Fire and Once Upon a Quinceneara in terms of examining cultural/religious and a gendered practice(s) of tradition?

2. What is the transition from girlhood into womanhood for these women (in the film) and is there a process of Poisoning as explained by Dr. Pipher? Please defend your ideas.

3.Why would a film that examines "traditional expectations" for women be banned?

4. How can we understand culture/cultural practice vs oppression? Which one is most apparent in the film - and what reading can you best use to articulate this position/answer clearly?
